The Carbon Sequestration Science road map
from the US Department of Energy is proposing a potential carbon
sequestration method, by increasing belowground plant biomass,
which has the additional benefit of reduced carbon decomposition
losses (Torn & Dawson). Ecological restoration of native North
American ecosystems, could be a practical method to easily accomplish
that goal.

importance of belowground plant allocation for sequestration of
carbon in soils" DOE Carbon Sequestration current research.
